Mario Pedone, virtuoso accordionist, returned to Victoria on Sunday May 3. He is based in Texas, but has visited and played in Victoria several times in recent years. The Victoria Accordion Club hosted a concert by Mario at the Edelweiss club (108 Niagara Street) at 1530 hrs (3:30 p.m.). All who attended thoroughly enjoyed MarioÕs stellar skill and performance.

Mario is very well-known in music circles. He is an accomplished accordionist and keyboardist who plays every style of music including jazz, latin, European, country, folk, big band, traditional and much more. His exceptionally smooth style blends often with blinding speed on the keys, which makes him the sultan of accordion music.

Mario Pedone and Reis Vink of Nanaimo played a duet after Mario gave his usual inspired and entertaining concert performance.  Truly a virtuoso musician.

Jelena Milojevic Concert

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Jelena gave a superb concert of classical music.  She also conducted a highly useful workshop on bellow control and effects.

Jelena Milojevic was born in 1981 in Split, Croatia. She started her studies of accordion at the Music Academy in Pula (Croatia), in the class of Professor Denis Modrusan. She finished her studies at the Music academy in Kragujevac (Serbia) in 2004 in the class of Professor Radomir Tomic. During her career, she has performed in Canada, Europe (Germany, Italy, UK, Ukraine, France) as well as throughout ex-Yugoslavia.

Jelena Milojevic has won numerous international accordion competitions, as soloist and as a chamber musician. One of her greatest successes is the winning of one of the biggest international competitions for accordion artists, WORLD TROPHY 2003 in Acquappesa, Italy. During her career she has made successful collaborations with some of the world's leading pedagogues and performers, like: A. Skliarov, Y. Shishkin, P. Soave, J. Crabb, O. Murray, M. Vayrynen, and R. Tomic.

During the 2006/2007 season, she was deeply involved in research of chamber music, performing with her ARTES DUO, unique combination of violin and classical accordion. The duo performed numerous concerts in some of the biggest halls in Southern Europe (ÒKolarac hallÓ- Belgrade, ÒBanski dvorÓ- Banja Luka).  Her performances were acclaimed as "an explosion of cosmic sensuality", in the same time pervade with "brilliant virtuosity..." É "one of the greatest female accordion performers of today".

Jelena Milojevic now lives and works in Vancouver, BC, Canada where she's working hard on promoting and establishing classical accordion, as a performer as well as a teacher. She's teaching at Vancouver Community College, Vancouver, British Columbia.
