Music Performance
[**see photos below]
Tom Cordoni,
an accordionist from San Francisco visited our club this afternoon. Tom and his wife are visiting various
accordion clubs as they travel across the country. We were treated to a half hour of entertaining medleys of
various styles played on an interesting looking accordion, that had black
treble keys and a treble clef design on the bellows. Tom belongs to three
accordion clubs in the San Francisco region and these clubs have up to 200
members!
Marc Wald was
our other featured performer who entertained us with tunes that he had written
such as “In Between the Keys” and various numbers that have been popular
requests from his performances on radio and TV.
Marc and Tom teamed up for duets to
complete the afternoon’s entertainment. We were treated to New York, New
York and a medley of polkas starting with Just
Because.

NEW BUSINESS
- Website: Ron Sera has officially
registered the name “Victoria Accordion Club” as the website address for our club. Anyone accessing the Internet, including club members,
can now access our club website by using www.victoriaaccordionclub.com
and get to our existing website being held on the Tempo Trend web space at
Islandnet. He also registered
the name “Accordions By The Sea” for our
club’s use for the accordion festival we will sponsor in the future.
- Edmonton accordion festival - Mary Ross was invited to adjudicate the 11th annual Edmonton
Extravaganza Sept 22-24. There
were 94 entries comprising of accordionists from 8 and under to 90 years
young. The event started with
a sold out concert Friday evening. The theme was Music Around the World. Performers were the Edmonton Accordion Band directed by festival organizer/instructor Enes Upright, followed by Mary Ross and Barbara
Ann Martindale from Vancouver. Saturday was busy with
competitions, workshop on traditional Celtic music, jam sessions, and an
evening dance with a popular band from Edmonton. Sunday was another full day of
accordion competitions, duets, ensembles, novelty classes, and bands (four
bands), and senior open competitions. This event is run very efficiently, promotes the
accordion to the public and participants in a positive manner. VAC members, Brian and Rosemary
Bartle and Monica Trautmann attended the event this year and hopefully more members and
perhaps even the band will attend this event in the future.
