VAC Meeting highlites - March 4, 2007

 

 

Band Report:

• The Accordion Band will perform April 28^th at the Edelweiss Anniversary Ball.
• The club would also like to hire a dance band for the evening and would like to know if any club members were interested. Reis Vink has offered to provide the music

 

• May 5 (changed from April 7) is a fundraiser for the Korean Community. Claire Yoo is interested in the band performing for 20 minutes starting at 8 p.m. It is at the Holy Cross Church Centre 4069 Gordon Head Road in Victoria.

 

• Ron Sera suggested that the band performances should also be an opportunity to advertise the Accordions by the Sea Festival. Once pamphlets are made, they can be handed out at band functions.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Schnitzel Night

• Robert Hildenbrand provided music for March. He has graciously agreed to do the April Schnitzel night again.

 

Schlachfest at the Edelweiss Club

• Ron Sera will provide music for Saturday March 17

 

Accordions by the Sea Festival

• The committee met today at 12:00 to estimate and discuss budgeting of the festival
• Timetabling events and allocating space and pricing events were also discussed.

 

NEW BUSINESS

• Sanna Pellet is organizing a fundraiser (Fun Raiser) for members. Dig through your photos and find a photo of yourself from earlier years, particularly if you have one playing the accordion.
• Sanna will make a poster with all the photos. At the May meeting there will be a contest to see who can make the most correct guesses. There will be a token fee to vote, which will result in a prize, and money to the festival fund.

March Music Theme Irish Music

 

There was a great variety of tunes and performers.

 

 

	David Gallop and Mary Klektau entertain with Irish tunes

 

 

 

Kathrine Pennock started the afternoon with favourite Irish sing-a-long tunes.

Mary Klektau continued the sing-a-long theme with more Irish favourites and

David Gallop provided vocals and brought out his accordion to join Mary for more Irish tunes.

Brian Bartle played three accordion solos that included The March Hare from the movie of the same name as well as a tune written by Scottish Accordionist Tom Alexander.

Rose Twordig entertained us with a variety of numbers that she had heard on CD’s. Her solos included a fast paced number from Gary Blair’s CD as well as favourite sing a long tunes from the Roaring 20 era.

Ries Vink and Marc Wald treated us to duets and solos. The blend of sound between the two accordions and the tasteful fill in passages kept all enthralled.

After a few encores, the afternoon wrapped up with a photo session in the main hall.

This group photo will appear on our web and can be used for advertising the festival.
